I spent much of my life becoming other women.

As an actress, my work was to step inside a character until I understood how she carried herself, what she hid, what she wanted when no one was watching. Somewhere along the way I learned that what a woman wears closest to her skin is never just fabric. It’s the first thing she says to herself in the morning, before the world tells her who to be.

I went looking for lingerie that felt like an ally instead of a costume and found it in small Italian ateliers, many run by women, where Leavers lace is still made on century-old looms. I call it the couture of lace: a single piece can hold a hundred hours of human hands.

For years I believed a woman had to choose: gentle or fierce, sacred or desired. I've learned those were never opposites. She is all of them, at once.
